Will the Metaverse Replace Your Zoom Calls?
During the pandemic, many companies have adopted virtual communications to make up for the lack of communication. However, these tools have limitations: Zoom cannot broadcast the non-verbal cues that make face-to-face meetings useful, and spontaneous meetings at the cooler cannot be replaced by texting. Some companies solve these problems with the help of the metaverse.
All of these companies have found that meeting in an immersive virtual world allows them to interact with each other on a more subtle level and more easily recognize social cues.
For example, participants in a metaverse event might line up in the order in which they are going to speak. With traditional video calls, this is difficult to replicate.
In 2021, Facebook launched a remote collaboration tool that helps employees in VR headsets meet in the same virtual room. You literally raise your hand and the other person sees in peripheral vision that your hand is up and looks at you. And you hear: “Yes, what’s the matter, I’m here – do you need something?”.
Whether it’s an unexpected application or a specialized product, virtual coworking in the metaverse is becoming more common as the concept of the metaverse becomes more common.
The Metaverse is unlikely to replace Zoom anytime soon. However, the video game and its counterparts are a healthy alternative for any company that wants to help its employees prevent burnout, interact in new ways, and increase the number of potential colleagues.
